CLAVERACK, N. Y. – It looked like a bad situation when the town of Windham noticed its water usage rates doubled. It looked worse when they couldn’t find the leak. “We noticed a big jump on our water meters, so we started looking around to see if water was bubbling out of the streets or running out of a house,” Thomas Hoyt, one of Windham’s Water Superintendants explained.

The central Maine town of Winthrop has been judged to have Maine’s best-tasting drinking water. The Winthrop Utilities District and the Red House Farm Village Condo Association in Newry were judged to have the best water at the Maine Rural Water Association’s 24th annual drink water taste test, held Wednesday in Freeport.
